21st Century Journalism
Grade: 9-12 Length of Course: Semester
Description: 21st Century Journalism - Required for staff positions of the Bronco yearbook, Stampede website, Cavalry newsmagazine, and Imperial Ink lit/art magazine. Emphasis is on print media skills and concepts. Students will identify and apply appropriate writing styles, preparation of copy, proofreading and editing rules, and design concepts. Practice in digital photography will be included. Students will learn and practice using appropriate design and photo editing software such as Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop.

Audio Video Production Fundamentals
Grade: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Length of Course: Semester
Description: This is a course that provides a basic understanding of producing video for broadcast uses. Topics include the pre-production, production and post-production processes. Interviewing, coverage, and audience appropriateness are additional major focuses. Aspects of good videography will be addressed and applied to a variety of video segments made by students. Students will largely work in teams once videos are being created. No personal equipment required, but a smartphone can be used if available.

Digital Media Project Management
Grade: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Length of Course: Year
Description: This course gives students an opportunity to apply the skills obtained in technical level digital media courses in a project-oriented environment. Competencies may reflect the particular work environment, workplace experience and/or the essential skills addressed reflective of previous coursework.

Photo Imaging
Grade: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Length of Course: Semester
Description: Photo Imaging teaches the technical skills needed to produce quality images for use in a variety of applications. Topics include use of equipment, software and techniques to take, edit and manipulate digital images.

Photo Imaging II
Grade: 10-12 Prerequisite: Photo Imaging Length of Course: Semester
Description: Photo Imaging II teaches the technical skills needed to work with electronic media. Topics include exploring the use of digital imaging and video today and in the future, a study of the relationship of workflow to project planning and completion and the software, equipment and tools used in the industry.

Student Publications-Digital Media Design & Production
Grade: 10-12 Prerequisite: 21st Century Journalism, Computer Applications. Instructor approval is required.

Description: Student Publications is an elective course providing journalism experience in both newspaper and yearbook, though skills are applicable to all print and online media. Preparation of news stories, editorials, features, sports stories, advertising, layouts, copy, photography, and graphic elements are done by students who fill editorial and staff positions. Other topics include developing a production schedule, editorial chain, working as a team, utilizing composition principles, and embedding audio, video, or other content in print and digital formats. Students will use software such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and online publishing software. The end products will be multi-media projects intended for public presentation. This course will require time outside of class, though students will have plenty of time for other extracurricular activities. Being in Student Publications comes with many perks and benefits as well as vocational experience.

Video Production
Grade: 10-12 Prerequisite: A/V Fundamentals Length of Course: Semester 1 or Year
Description: Video production applies the technical skills learned in A/V Fundamentals by allowing students to orchestrate projects including client-connected projects like PSAs, instructional videos, and commercials. Pre-production, production, and post-production are all still critical elements, but students will act as leaders under the advisement of the instructor. The angle of the videos will address an authentic need within SHHS or the district/community. Efficiency in project turnover is highlighted as if for a broadcast production. Students will largely work in teams, but all students will be expected to fulfill all roles including, but not limited to, script writer/researcher, interviewer, on-camera talent, cameraperson, editor, etc. No personal equipment required, but a smartphone can be used if available. As the team grows, podcasting will become a key element of production.
