Are there any exceptions to the prohibition of charging tuition or fees to nonresident students?
Nonresident students may be charged fees that are otherwise charged to every student enrolled in the district, but no additional tuition or fees should be imposed.

Can my Out-of-District Transfer Request approval get revoked?
Yes, out-of-district transfer request approvals can be subject to review, especially if the student is no longer deemed to be in good standing or if the circumstances under which the transfer was granted change.

Can my Out-of-District Transfer Request student attend the Spring Hill Early Learning Academy?
The district does not accept out-of-district transfer requests for the Spring Hill Learning Academy. However, preschool-aged siblings of students already enrolled in the district should contact the SHELA for more information about the enrollment process.

Do any Out-of-District Transfer Request requests get preference?
Yes, certain categories of nonresident students are given priority in enrollment, such as siblings of current nonresident students, military students, children in the custody of the Department for Children and Families, students experiencing homelessness, and children of a parent or person acting as a parent employed by the district.

Do I need to complete a request for each student?
Yes, a separate request should be submitted for each student seeking an out-of-district transfer request.

How is capacity determined for nonresident enrollment?
Capacity for nonresident enrollment is determined by studying capacity in each school and grade level within the district. The superintendent or designee develops recommendations based on factors such as current student-teacher ratios, enrollment trends, and maximum capacity of facilities.

How long can a nonresident student continue enrollment in the district?
A nonresident student who has been accepted for enrollment can continue enrollment until graduation from high school, reaching the age of 21, or receiving a G.E.D., unless their enrollment status changes due to reasons outlined in the policy.

How many times can a nonresident student transfer per school year?
Except for specific exceptions such as children in the custody of the Department for Children and Families or experiencing homelessness, a nonresident student shall not transfer more than once per school year.

How will I be informed if my nonresident student's application is accepted or denied?
The district will notify the parent/guardian of all students with an out-of-district transfer request on or before July 15. If the application is denied, the district will provide the reason for nonacceptance or denial and an explanation of the nonresident student selection process to the parent or person acting as a parent.

Is eligibility for KSHSAA activities affected by nonresident enrollment?
No, nonresident students are not exempt from the eligibility requirements of the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA).

What happens if there are more applications than available seats?
If there are more applications than available seats for a grade level in a school building, nonresident students will be selected through a confidential lottery process conducted by district administration.

When can I apply for nonresident enrollment?
The district accepts applications from nonresident students from June 1 through June 30 each year.

Information regarding out-of-district transfer requests for the 2024-25 school year will be available by the end of May 2024.

Will transportation be provided for nonresident students?
The district is generally not required to provide transportation for nonresident students unless mandated by state or federal law, individualized education programs, or Section 504 plans.
