SPRING HILL, Kan. (August 11, 2025) — Spring Hill USD 230 leaders reported continued progress on projects funded through the district’s $60 million Bond 2025 initiative during the Aug. 11 Board of Education meeting.

Executive Director of Operations Marc Williams and Director of Facilities Kylie Delphia outlined design timelines, estimated costs, and renderings for three elementary classroom additions, as well as upcoming work on HVAC, roofing, and high-school expansion projects.

Williams said updated cost estimates from construction manager Newkirk Novak placed the combined price for the three elementary additions slightly below the district’s $16 million allocation — a positive sign as designs move toward bid release this fall. Each addition will add roughly 5,500 square feet to its respective campus, featuring four large classrooms, two smaller instructional rooms, and storage or office space.

Construction on the additions at Spring Hill Elementary, Timber Sage Elementary, and Prairie Creek Elementary is expected to begin in November 2025, with completion targeted for August 2026. The projects will bid simultaneously to maximize efficiency and cost savings.

Williams noted that each design mirrors the others in square footage and classroom layout. Restrooms were intentionally omitted to save costs, as nearby facilities already meet student needs.

The total project budgets include furniture, fixtures, equipment, and classroom technology such as projectors, screens, and Apple TV devices. Student devices, however, will continue to be purchased separately through the district’s technology plan.

Williams said design development continues for high-school improvements, including a Career and Technical Education (CTE) wing and commons expansion, with staff input sessions planned to begin in September. Preliminary HVAC and roof replacement planning is also underway, with construction targeted to start in May 2026.

Board members Jon Chitwood, Nicole Melius, and Keith Ewing commended the operations team for providing detailed visuals, budgets, and timelines. Melius emphasized the value of bidding the three elementary projects together, while Ewing confirmed that classroom technology and furnishings were included within the presented cost estimates.

“This really came together well,” Melius said. “It’s great to see clear timelines, renderings, and cost control at this stage.”

Williams added that the district will return in late October with bid recommendations for board approval, allowing construction to begin on schedule in November.
