SPRING HILL, Kan. — The Spring Hill Board of Education received a detailed update Monday on the progress of Bond 2025 projects, with district leaders outlining construction timelines, design development and next steps for elementary expansions and planned improvements at Spring Hill High School.
The update was presented by Marc Williams, Kyley Delphia and project partners during the board’s regular meeting.
Elementary school additions
Administrators reported continued progress on elementary school additions funded through the voter-approved bond. The projects are designed to address enrollment growth, reduce classroom crowding and support long-term capacity needs across the district.
Board members reviewed current construction status, including recent work completed at Prairie Creek Elementary, Spring Hill Elementary and Timber Sage Elementary schools. Weekly contractor reports were shared with the board, providing updates on site activity, scheduling and coordination among contractors.
District leaders emphasized that construction remains aligned with established timelines and that ongoing coordination is focused on minimizing disruptions to students and staff while ensuring quality workmanship.
HVAC system recommendations
As part of the bond-related facilities work, administrators presented HVAC recommendations for Spring Hill Elementary School, Spring Hill Early Learning Academy and Spring Hill Middle School. The proposed improvements are intended to modernize aging systems, improve efficiency and enhance indoor comfort and air quality.
The board discussed system performance, lifecycle considerations and the importance of addressing mechanical infrastructure proactively. Following discussion, the board approved the HVAC recommendations, allowing the district to move forward with the next phase of planning and implementation.
Furniture and learning environment planning
The board also reviewed furniture proposals for the new elementary school additions. Administrators explained that furniture selection is being coordinated to support instructional flexibility, durability and consistency across buildings.
Furniture for the additions will be procured through an established cooperative purchasing contract, allowing the district to leverage competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards. The discussion highlighted how furniture planning is being integrated into the overall construction timeline to ensure spaces are fully ready for student use upon completion.
Spring Hill High School CTE and commons expansion
A significant portion of the presentation focused on upcoming planning work for the Career and Technical Education (CTE) and commons expansion at Spring Hill High School.
Administrators outlined the need for a boundary survey and limited topographic survey prior to construction activities. The proposed survey work will establish accurate property boundaries, document existing site conditions and assess stormwater considerations associated with new impervious surfaces created by the addition.
The board also reviewed schematic design concepts for the CTE and commons expansion. The design work is intended to support expanded career and technical programming, improve student collaboration spaces and align with the district’s long-term vision for secondary education.
District leaders noted that the schematic phase allows for early feedback and refinement before final design and construction documents are developed.
Financial oversight and transparency
Throughout the presentation, administrators emphasized ongoing financial oversight and transparency related to bond-funded projects. Monthly and weekly reporting, pay application reviews and board approvals remain key components of the district’s accountability process.
Board members discussed the importance of maintaining clear communication with the community regarding project progress, expenditures and timelines, noting that Bond 2025 represents a long-term investment in district facilities and student learning environments.
Looking ahead
District leaders indicated that additional updates will be provided to the board as projects advance, including continued reporting on construction milestones, design development and upcoming procurement decisions.
The Bond 2025 projects are intended to support current and future students by expanding capacity, modernizing facilities and enhancing learning environments across the district.
The board expressed appreciation for the detailed update and reaffirmed its commitment to responsible stewardship of bond funds as construction and planning continue.
