The Board of Education is composed of seven unpaid local citizens elected by citizens in the district. It sets policies by which schools operate and approves hiring faculty and staff to administer these policies. Board meetings, open to the public, are held at 6:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at various locations. Nicole Melius, President
Position 4 - Area 1
Member since 1/2022 (Current term expires 1/2026)
Nicole Melius and her husband, Adam, have lived in the Spring Hill School District since 2008. They spent ten years in the city of Spring Hill before moving to the northern part of the district in Olathe. Their four children are currently attending Spring Hill Schools. Mrs. Melius joined the Board of Education because she loves the district community and wanted to give back through service and leadership.

Doug Hull, Vice President
Position 1 - Area 1
Member since 1/2024 (Current term expires 1/2028)
Doug and his wife, JoAnn, have lived in the Spring Hill School District since 2012 and have two boys attending Spring Hill Schools. Mr. Hull has enjoyed a 30+ year career in the media and entertainment industry helping independent companies compete with the biggest media conglomerates in the world. Doug has been very involved in various capacities volunteering in Spring Hill Schools over the past several years. Mr. Hull is the current Board of Education Vice President. He is committed to representing all constituencies with integrity and supporting the achievement of excellence from our students, teachers, staff, and administrators.

April Horne
Position 2 - Area 2

April (Phillips) Horne first walked into a Spring Hill school in the fall of 1987 as an elementary school student. 37 years later, with 3 children all currently attending Spring Hill Schools, she appreciates the changes this community has experienced. Officially moving back to Spring Hill in 2007 with her husband, Bryan, they have experienced the important impact our schools have on our children. April just recently stepped away from Corporate America after 23 years of experience specific to system integration and business transformation. She made this decision to focus full time on her family, her passion for education and the community she loves dearly. She looks forward to this opportunity to serve on the Spring Hill Schools' Board of Education knowing the challenges and growth facing the community. She believes strongly that schools and our children will always be our communities' most cherished resources, and we should make decisions that reflect that.

Jon Chitwood
Position 3 - Area 3
Member since 1/2024 (Current term expires 1/2028)
Jon and his wife, Tricia, take pride in being the parents of two graduates from Spring Hill High. An alumnus of Haskell Indian Nations University, Jon holds a bachelor's degree in communication studies from the University of Kansas. In his initial career, Jon focused on building and managing global payment solutions for government and commercial clients. Currently, he is dedicated to his second career as an agricultural producer. Jon's commitment to making a positive impact extends beyond his professional life. He has been a longtime volunteer at non-profit and educational organizations. Serving on the board is a natural continuation of Jon's dedication and efforts to give back to his community.

Sharon Mitchell
Position 5 - Area 2
Member since 7/2013 (Current term expires 1/2026)
Sharon Mitchell, with her husband, Troy, has lived in the Spring Hill School District since 1996. Their five children have all graduated from Spring Hill High. Mrs. Mitchell earned a bachelor's degree in interpersonal communication from Nebraska Wesleyan University. She worked in academic publishing sales for nearly 10 years. She spent many years as a community volunteer and stay-at-home mom. She has served on the Board of Education since 2013. In 2015, she began working for the Spring Hill Chamber of Commerce as President/CEO. She has served in various volunteer capacities with USD 230 at the district and building levels, and has served a partial term on the KSHSAA Board of Directors. She seeks to support the future stability of our community through continued improvement of our strong public school system.

Keith Ewing
Position 6 - Area 3

Keith Ewing has lived in Spring Hill for most of his life and graduated from Spring Hill High in 1994. He and his wife, Andrea, raised their four children (all Spring Hill High graduates) in Spring Hill. Mr. Ewing works as a general contractor in Spring Hill and the greater Kansas City. He is excited for his opportunity to serve the community through his work as a member of the Board of Education. He hopes to provide stability and a balanced perspective during Board discussions and to make decisions that are best for all students.

Anna Baker

Anna Baker is a dedicated and passionate member of the Spring Hill Schools' Board of Education, committed to fostering educational excellence and community engagement. She and her husband, Don, have lived in the Spring Hill School District since 2019. As a parent of three children currently enrolled in Spring Hill Schools, Mrs. Baker has firsthand experience navigating the district offerings, challenges and opportunities, and has a vested interest in ensuring quality education. This personal involvement fuels her commitment to enhancing the educational experience for all students and ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education that prepares them for future success.
