• Audience - All sophomores (unless they opt-out)

• Purpose - Practice ACT written specifically for sophomores.
• How to Sign Up - No sign up necessary (Will be given at school).
• When - Fall (Typically October during the annual statewide Testing Window--Oct. 18, 2023)

PSAT

• Audience - Sophomores and Juniors who sign up
• Cost - $18
• Purpose - Practice SAT. Juniors that take this test MAY be considered for the National Merit Scholars Program (Top 1% of testers).
• How to Sign Up - Sign up in the counseling office (Will be given at school).
• When - Fall (Annual National Test Date--Oct. 18, 2023)

ACT Work Keys

• Audience - Juniors who sign up
• Cost - FREE if taken on the school state-wide test day. 
• Purpose - Job skills assessment. It measures workplace skills. The test scores are used to determine your aptitude for a specific career or to demonstrate your expertise to future employers. 
• How to Sign Up - Statewide: Sign up in the counseling office (Will be given at school).
• When - Statewide (Typically October during an annual statewide testing date--Oct. 18, 2023)

ACT

• Audience - Second semester juniors and/or any seniors.
• Cost - FREE FOR JUNIORS if taken on the school state wide test day. $60 if taken on national test dates (writing portion is extra)
• Purpose - College admission test primarily used by midwest colleges and universities. 
• How to Sign Up -
  • Statewide: Sign up in the counseling office (Will be given at school on Feb. 27, 2024).
  • National: Register with ACT

• Audience - Students taking AP courses who sign up
• Cost - $98
• Purpose - Students who take these tests and earn a qualifying score can earn college credit.
• How to Sign Up - Sign up in the main office (Will be given at school).
• When - May (National Test Dates)

Accuplacer

• Audience - Students wanting to be dual enrolled in JCCC courses needing to meet a prerequisite.
• Cost - FREE
• Purpose - Placement test for College Now and Quick Step Plus courses through JCCC
• How to Sign Up - Sign up with JCCC.
• When - Anytime w/in JCCC Testing Center hours

The ACT ® college readiness assessment is a curriculum- and standards-based educational and career planning tool that assesses students' academic readiness for college. The ACT is one of the exams used by colleges for admittance. The ACT test is a college entrance exam that is primarily accepted by colleges/universities in the Midwest.

At SHHS, we encourage our students to take the ACT during the second semester of their Junior year, allowing time for the student to take as many appropriate classes in math, English, and science to prepare for the exam.

In order to assist our students to reach their highest potential on the exam, we offer a distinct online, interactive ACT preparation program at no cost called Methodize. The Methodize mini-lessons stress the ACT testing format familiarization. This course is online, interactive, and available for student use 24/7. Students can access this program on the links on the Test Preparation page.

High school juniors and seniors in the United States, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories who cannot afford to pay the test fees can request fee waivers through their school counselors.

The waivers cover the basic test fees for ACT. Each qualifying student is eligible for two fee waivers. A fee waiver may qualify you for application fee waivers at many colleges. See your counselor for more information or to find out if you qualify.

The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is a college entrance exam that is primarily accepted by colleges/universities on the East and West Coasts as well as more selective admissions colleges/universities.
