A Message from Director Bartley

Marching Band
The marching season continues through late October. Along with daily rehearsals, students will have REQUIRED sectionals once a week at 7:15 a.m. as well as numerous performances. Students must memorize music and practice outside of class and sections. This class meets first hour.
-
Concert Band
Concert band will begin at the conclusion of the Marching band. Students will perform in concerts and competitions as well as opportunities for solos and ensembles.
-
Concert Etiquette
Students and parents should adhere to standard concert etiquette. This includes keeping mobile devices hidden away during performances in a darkened theater. There should be no talking during said performances. In between multi-movement pieces, there should be no clapping. Attendees should stay in their seats while music is being performed. The exception would be a restless or crying child.
-
Jazz Band
Jazz band meets second hour and has grown to nearly a full compliment. For the upcoming school year, the jazz band will be an auditioned group. If you want to get started preparing, contact Director Bartley. We will work out of the Essential Elements jazz method as well as performing many different styles of sheet music. As part of a rotation, students will also present short Youtube videos on selected jazz artists. Students will perform at concerts, community events, and any other chance we get! All jazz students must have a tux shirt and black dress pants.

Extra Credit
Students are always encouraged to do extra credit in order to recover lost points. The top priority is to recover all in-class points (tests, worksheets, etc) first. Then students can attend music performances (must pertain to their band instrument) and write a one page (typed, 12 pt. font, 1" margins in essay format) review of what they heard. Turn this into Director Bartley. Please have performances approved in advance by Director Bartley.
Students may also write reviews of YouTube videos. The same format as performance reviews, but make sure to include the URL of the video in your report.
