• Volunteer Service is important for:

    • Building a resume for college entrance and scholarship acceptance
    • Forming connections with your community
    • Helping others in need
    • Creating a sense of purpose for yourself
    • Building character
    • Creating friendships with those around you

In your freshman year, you want to begin logging any and all activities related to high school service, leadership, awards, honors, and activities. You can use the Volunteer & Activity Log at the bottom of this page to keep track of your activities each year. You can also create your own log on Google Drive that is portable throughout high school.

Don't forget honors, awards, and activities: Sports, Fine Arts, Agriculture, STEM, Academia, and your own community activities (outside of school) are all important events you'll want to take note of. By the time you're a senior, you'll forget what you did in October of your Sophomore year. A fully maintained log makes for a very impressive resume addition.

As early as possible, you should start taking leadership positions. It is often difficult to win elected positions, but volunteering to assist with school events and making yourself visible is a great way to become better acquainted with your classmates and developing leadership skills.

At SHHS and in our community, there are many opportunities for Volunteer Service, Leadership, Community, and School Involvement. Several organizations within SHHS offer many chances for you to develop your service and leadership skills, including Volunteer Club, Youth Court, SADD, FCCLA, PALS, LINKS, and Student Council. These are just a few of the organizations available for you to take part in to develop yourself and create a better community. Get started now to leverage your future and the future of others!
