• Who is the Spring Hill Elementary Counselor?

My name is Shelby Fleming. I have been the school counselor at Spring Hill Elementary for four years. I obtained my Master of Arts in Counseling degree at MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2018. Before transitioning into school counseling, I worked with children and families in the mental health field. It is my goal to empower students to overcome challenges and become their best selves!

What does a school counselor do?

The school counseling program encourages student growth in social-emotional, academic, and career planning skills. I provide many services including classroom lessons, small groups, and individual counseling for students. Lessons and small groups may cover topics such as friendship skills, bully prevention, grief and loss, anger management, or sadness and worry. Students can be referred to me by parents and teachers or by self-referral.

I can also work with a student's outpatient counselor if the student receives professional mental health services. If parents think their child needs to see a mental health professional, I can help connect families with appropriate counselors.

Please feel free to contact me if your student is experiencing any social, emotional, or behavioral concerns. Your child can also ask their teacher if they want to meet with me. Let's make this a successful school year for every student!
