• Who is the Spring Hill Elementary Counselor?

Welcome to SHES! My name is Shelby Fleming and I am the school counselor at Spring Hill Elementary School. I obtained my Master of Arts in Counseling degree at MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2018. Before transitioning into school counseling, I worked with children and families in the mental health field. It is my goal to empower students to overcome challenges and become their best selves!

What does a school counselor do?

The school counseling program encourages student growth in social-emotional, academic, and career planning skills. I provide many services, including classroom lessons, small groups, and individual counseling for students. Lessons and small groups may cover topics such as friendship skills, bully prevention, grief, anger management, stress management, and school avoidance. Students can see me by self-referral (filling out a counselor note in their classroom). Parents and teachers can also refer their students to me by email or phone call.

If your student sees an outpatient therapist, I can work with the therapist to ensure that we are meeting their mental health needs at school. If you think your child needs to see an outpatient therapist, I can help connect families with appropriate counselors in the area. See the Mental Health Resources link below.

Please contact me if your student is experiencing any social, emotional, or behavioral concerns. Let's make this a successful school year for every student!
