The Spring Hill Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, May 12, 2025. Highlights from the meeting are summarized below.

Recognitions and Good News

Board members recognized:

  • Norah McMains for her participation in the Publish Our Voices Digital Magazine.

  • Students in Mr. Lundy’s Materials Science class placed first, second and third in the local Casting Dreams competition, qualifying for Nationals.

  • 48 graduating seniors who collectively completed 60 CTE Pathways, a notable increase from last year.

  • Aidan Wiehl, Maya Lozano, and Adelyn O’Hanlon as recipients of the Governor’s Scholar Award.

  • Spring Hill High School’s Blue Star Award nomination for Outstanding Scene Design.

Discussion Items

Nashville Journalism Conference
Anna Manning presented a request for SHHS student journalists to attend the National High School Journalism Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. She noted the experience would benefit students and the program. The request included substitute coverage and transportation costs only.

2026-27 District Calendar
Dr. Robinson and district leaders presented a proposed calendar for the 2026-27 school year. The Board will vote on the recommendation at the June 9 meeting.

Health Services Update
The Health Services Department shared an overview of 2024-25 initiatives, including dental screenings at Spring Hill Elementary, a health partnership clinic supporting Title I schools, updated legislation (HB 2547) allowing the use of albuterol inhalers, and a review of health office visits by building.

BIST Implementation
Dr. Robinson, Mrs. Skibbe and staff from Prairie Creek Elementary shared updates on the Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST) and discussed current funding and future plans for the program.

Site-Based Classrooms
The Board reviewed specialized instructional programs, including:

  • BEST (Building Essential Skills Together) for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

  • RISE (Reaching Independence through a Structured Environment) for students on the autism spectrum.

  • Bronco TIES (Transition to Independence, Employment and Success) for young adults focused on vocational and functional skills.

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
Dr. Erin Smith discussed the district’s continued implementation of PLCs, emphasizing data-driven instruction and a collaborative culture to improve student learning.

Easement Request
Mr. Tim Meek presented a request to grant a City easement related to the expansion of 199th Street near the District Administrative Center.

KASB Membership Renewal
The Board reviewed the proposed renewal of the district’s Kansas Association of School Boards membership for 2025-26. The current membership, costing $14,210.13, expires June 30.
