Spring Hill Schools Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell to Retire in 2027

Spring Hill Schools Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell has announced plans to retire in June 2027 after more than 40 years in public education.

SPRING HILL, Kan. — Spring Hill Superintendent of Schools Dr. Link Luttrell has announced his intention to retire at the conclusion of his current contract, effective June 30, 2027, following more than four decades of service in public education.

Since beginning his tenure in 2022, Luttrell has guided the district through a period of significant growth and achievement. Highlights include the passage of a $60 million bond in May 2025, approved by 64% of voters; an increase in teacher retention from 88% to more than 92%; and measurable gains in student performance on state assessments, Advanced Placement exams and ACT scores.

In 2024, Luttrell worked with Kansas legislators to revise the state’s education funding formula, ensuring that rapidly growing districts such as USD 230 receive aid based on current-year enrollment.

“Serving this wonderful and rapidly growing community since 2022 has been one of the greatest privileges of my career,” Luttrell said. “Together, we have pursued an aligned vision of enhancing USD 230 in all areas, always grounded in our commitment to Excellence Every Day. I remain fully dedicated to serving through June 2027 and confident this advance notice will provide the board and community with the time needed for a smooth transition.”

Board of Education President Nicole Melius said Luttrell’s leadership has left a lasting mark on the district.

“Dr. Luttrell has positioned USD 230 to thrive well beyond his tenure,” Melius said. “His leadership has raised expectations and reinforced a culture of Excellence Every Day. As we begin the important work of planning for a superintendent transition, we are confident his continued guidance will ensure a seamless handoff and a bright future for our district.”

Board of Education Vice President Doug Hull echoed those sentiments.

“What stands out most about Dr. Luttrell’s leadership is his genuine care for students, staff and families,” Hull said. “He consistently makes decisions that put kids first while building trust with our community. We are grateful for his dedication and look forward to his steady guidance as we prepare for the next chapter in USD 230.”

The Spring Hill Schools Board of Education has begun developing a comprehensive superintendent succession plan to ensure a transparent and seamless transition of leadership. In the coming weeks, a Superintendent Search Hub will be created at usd230.org, where all updates about the selection process will be posted as efficiently and transparently as possible. District patrons will also be invited to provide input on the qualities and experience desired in USD 230’s next leader.
