Spring Hill Schools is proud to announce its district elementary and secondary honorees for the 2027 Kansas Teacher of the Year award: Avery Ozier and Tristan Bartley. This recognition honors the district’s outstanding certified teachers who exemplify excellence in student success, content expertise, innovation, and service to the profession.
The elementary Teacher of the Year honoree is Avery Ozier from Timber Sage Elementary. Ozier, a second-grade teacher in her tenth year of teaching and fourth year in Spring Hill, is known for creating a safe, inclusive, and joyful classroom where all students feel valued, supported, and challenged.
“Avery is truly sunshine in our school—her kindness, warmth, and ever-present smile brighten every room she enters,” said Timber Sage Principal Jody Moeschler. “Avery collaborates seamlessly with staff and families, always putting the needs of students first. Her dedication is inspiring. Her teaching strategies are thoughtful and effective, promoting growth not only in academics but in social-emotional learning as well.”
The secondary Teacher of the Year honoree is Tristan Bartley from Spring Hill High School. Bartley, in his eighth year of teaching and third year in Spring Hill, leads the school’s band program with passion, vision, and creativity—building a thriving, disciplined, and supportive environment for students to grow as musicians and individuals.
“Mr. Bartley’s unmatched dedication, innovative teaching, and unwavering belief in every student’s potential make him an ideal candidate for our district's highest teaching distinction,” said Spring Hill High School Principal Kyle Kost.
Each year, the Kansas State Department of Education sponsors a statewide competition to identify an outstanding teacher to become the Kansas Teacher of the Year. The district’s two honorees will now submit applications to be considered for the state-level award. The program’s mission is to build and utilize a network of exemplary teachers who are leaders in improving schools, student performance, and the teaching profession. The regional recognition ceremony will take place in April 2026, followed by the 2027 Kansas Teacher of the Year Leadership Conference and Award Banquet in September 2026.
