Summary

The Spring Hill USD 230 Board of Education met July 28, 2025, to approve personnel recommendations, recognize student achievements, review summer project progress, and discuss a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the City of Spring Hill regarding future sidewalk and trail development. Consent Agenda and Personnel Actions Approved

Board members approved the consent agenda, which included minutes, financial reports, and contracts related to curriculum, health services, and extracurricular programs. Notable items included:

  • Renewal of agreements for Spring Hill Sports Live and First Step Nursing

  • Approval to sanction Unified Bowling as a KSHSAA activity

  • Adoption of resources for AP Computer Science Principles, AP Environmental Science, and dual credit Teaching as a Career

  • Youth Teacher Apprentice program agreements

The Board also approved personnel changes during a separate action item vote.


Students Recognized for National Honors

Director of Communications Scott Peavey recognized several Spring Hill High School students for national-level accomplishments:

  • International Thespian Festival: MJ Bailey (Costume Construction), Paige Jackson (Solo Musical Theatre), and Breckynne Johnson (Solo Acting) received top honors, with Bailey and Jackson in attendance alongside sponsor Adrianna Wendel.

  • MLB High School Home Run Derby: Keaton Neal represented SHHS in Atlanta, hitting nine home runs during the national showcase event.

Board members expressed pride in the students’ accomplishments and celebrated their success with photos and public recognition.


Summer Projects Progress Report

Executive Director of Operations Kyley Delphia provided an in-depth update on summer facility projects across the district. Highlights included:

  • Lighting Upgrades: LED conversions were completed or near completion across all elementary schools and middle schools, with dimmable lights installed in classrooms for energy efficiency and flexibility.

  • Seal Coating & Concrete Repairs: Parking lot and concrete upgrades were completed at the Early Learning Academy, Wolf Creek, Timber Sage, Spring Hill Elementary, and Spring Hill Middle School. High school parking lot repairs were delayed to align with the upcoming CTE center construction.

  • Other Enhancements: Locker upgrades, restroom floor epoxy, improved library blinds, and landscaping improvements added to the refreshed appearance of district facilities.

  • District-Wide Maintenance: Ongoing inspections, painting, HVAC updates, and collaboration with nutrition staff and paraprofessionals contributed to readiness for the new school year.

Delphia credited maintenance, custodial, and grounds teams for their commitment, highlighting support from summer staff and vendors.


City Partnership: Trail Expansion MOU

Marc Williams introduced a proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) between USD 230 and the City of Spring Hill related to a trail expansion along 199th Street. Alysen Abel, City of Spring Hill representative, outlined the city’s Complete Streets Program, which will include:

  • A 10-foot trail on the north side of 199th Street, supporting bikes and pedestrians

  • A 5-foot sidewalk on the south side

  • Integration into a regional trail system spanning from Webster Street to the city limits

Board members expressed support for increased collaboration and emphasized the importance of safe walkability around schools. The revised MOU will be included in the consent agenda for the next board meeting.


Looking Ahead: Budget, Assessment Data, and Strategic Goals

Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell previewed several upcoming topics:

  • Budget Work Session: Tentatively scheduled for August 4, the session will include an overview of FY25 outcomes, a review of building needs assessments, and an early discussion on FY26 priorities.

  • Technology Audit: In response to public feedback, district leadership will evaluate classroom screen time and technology use across grade levels.

  • CTE Program Development: Ongoing efforts include exploring aviation grant opportunities and expanding apprentice and internship programming.

  • Connectivity at Athletic Facilities: The district is reviewing options to enhance internet access at outdoor athletic complexes.

Dr. Luttrell also highlighted the district’s Opening Ceremony scheduled for August 7, which will feature the district theme “Excellence Every Day” and a guest keynote speaker.

The board entered multiple executive sessions throughout the meeting to discuss personnel matters and attorney-client privileged information.
