Spring Hill Schools Pioneering Way With Heart Safe Certifications, 03/16/2023
In February 2023, each of the nine USD 230 schools became fully certified as a Project ADAM Heart Safe school. Spring Hill Schools is the first school district in Kansas and in the Kansas City metropolitan area to have all school buildings in the district with full Project ADAM Heart Safe School certification, according to Children’s Mercy representative Kaitlyn Bennett.
“As a district, we are always striving to make our buildings safer for students, staff, and community members,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Joshua Robinson. “The Project Adam Heart Safe Schools partnership with Children's Mercy Hospital provided an opportunity to ensure that our building teams are prepared to identify and manage a cardiac emergency. Our school nurse team should be commended for their leadership on this project and for their commitment to making our schools the very best that they can be.”
The goal of the comprehensive program is to have sudden cardiac arrest preparedness in schools and to promote a safe environment for students, visitors, and staff. To become a Project ADAM Heart Safe School, a school building must successfully implement the program requirements outlined in the Heart Safe School Checklist. The checklist focuses on five areas: 1) Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs); 2) Cardiac Emergency Response Team; 3) Cardiac Emergency Response Plan; 4) Training/Education; and 5) Cardiac Emergency Response Drills.
This accomplishment, which will positively impact the safety and health of our students and staff, would not have been possible without the hard work of the USD 230 staff. The nurse and building teams were recognized at the 2/13 BOE meeting:
