BOE Meeting Recap, 10/10/2022

The Spring Hill Schools Board of Education met October 10, 2022 at the District Administrative Center to discuss several items. The following are some important highlights from the meeting:

FSMS Mascot Selection

Forest Spring Middle Logo featuring the FSMS Chargers mascot

Director of Communication & Engagement Dr. Christopher Villarreal previously recommended the Forest Spring Middle mascot to be the Chargers. The Board approved the recommendation with the approval of the consent agenda. FSMS will open for the 2023-24 school year.

Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell shared a tentative timeline for FSMS staffing with the Board. The vacant principal position was posted at the beginning of the month and will close on 10/21. View the presented staffing timeline on BoardDocs.

Good News, Recognitions, & Announcements

Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell shared a What’s Going Well at SHES? video with the Board:

Dr. Luttrell also recognized the nine building honorees for the Teacher of the Year award:

  • Prairie Creek Elementary - Megan Bubb
  • Spring Hill Elementary - Hanna Kline
  • Timber Sage Elementary - Jamie Wyse

  • Spring Hill High - Emily Veer

Kansas Education Systems Accreditation

Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell shared about last week’s fifth-year KESA (Kansas Education Systems Accreditation) visit with the Board. An official report will be provided at a later time by Director of Teaching & Learning Dr. Erin Smith, but preliminary feedback was positive. View the discussed KESA visit.

SHHS Activities Requests

Two different activities from Spring Hill High presented to the Board about upcoming opportunities at the 9/26 meeting. SHHS Student Publications previously discussed attending the National High School Journalism Conference in St. Louis, MO. The Spring Hill FFA Chapter previously discussed attending the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN. The Board approved the trip requests with the approval of the consent agenda.
