BOE Meeting Recap, 09/26/2022
The Spring Hill Schools Board of Education met September 26, 2022 at Spring Hill Elementary for the school’s morning meeting and to discuss several items. The following are some important highlights from the meeting:
SHES Building Presentation
Spring Hill Elementary Principal Tammy Endecott, along with several SHES students and staff, shared information with the Board about the school’s real world learning (RWL) opportunities. FIRST® LEGO® League guides students through STEM learning and exploration with a focus on discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork and fun. FSMS Mascot Selection
Director of Communication & Engagement Dr. Christopher Villarreal presented the selection process for the Forest Spring Middle mascot to the Board. With 175 parent/student responses, the recommendation based on the results is for the FSMS mascot to be the Chargers.

Good News, Recognitions, & Announcements
Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell shared the following recognitions with the Board:
- Danny Hodge and Cooper Allison were announced as the district’s 2023 Horizon Award honorees. Hodge teaches physical education at Dayton Creek Elementary and Allison teaches English Language Arts at Woodland Spring Middle.
- Angela Johnson, teacher at Spring Hill Middle, was recently selected as a $5,000 grant recipient from Kansas State University. Johnson's plan for the grant is to provide an after school club that focuses on social-emotional learning (SEL) for students.
- Jessica Gazzano, teacher at Woodland Spring Middle, recently attended the 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year banquet. Gazzano was the Region 3 Secondary Finalist and one of only eight finalists for the award.
- Spring Hill Schools briefly shared about its new recognition program, the Core Values Award. The district’s five Core Values are Student Success, Supportive Environment, Transparent Leadership, World-Class Staff, and Engaged Community.
SHHS Activities Requests
Two different activities from Spring Hill High presented to the Board about upcoming opportunities. SHHS Student Publications discussed attending the National High School Journalism Conference in St. Louis, MO. The Spring Hill FFA Chapter discussed attending the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN. The discussions will come back as action items at a future meeting.
At the 9/12 meeting, Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell discussed the superintendent evaluation tool with the Board. The Board approved the superintendent evaluation with the approval of the consent agenda.
The Board approved a special meeting on Saturday, November 19, 2022 for the purpose of further refining the Superintendent Evaluation with a 5-0 vote. The time and location of the meeting is yet to be determined.
