Brent Smitheran Named Kansas High School Cross Country Coach of the Year



Spring Hill High School’s Brent Smitheran has been named the Kansas High School Cross Country Coach of the Year by the USTFCCCA. The award recognizes his leadership and the team’s outstanding 2024 season.

SPRING HILL, Kan. (April 4, 2025)—Spring Hill High School proudly announces that Head Cross Country Coach Brent Smitheran has been honored as the Kansas High School Cross Country Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

This esteemed award recognizes Coach Smitheran’s exceptional leadership and the outstanding achievements of the Spring Hill Cross Country team during the 2024 season.

According to the USTFCCCA, state-by-state winners were selected based on various factors, including team scores and placements at state championships, margins of victory, individual titles, performances against rankings, and comparisons to previous years.​

Assistant Principal and Athletics Director Clay Frigon expressed his admiration for Coach Smitheran's dedication:​

"Coach Smitheran's commitment to our student-athletes and his passion for the sport have been instrumental in elevating our cross country program. This recognition is a testament to his hard work and the collective effort of our athletes."​
