Spring Hill High School Teacher Gissel McDonald Honored with FCA Captain Award
Spring Hill High School teacher Gissel McDonald received the 2025 FCA Captain Award for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to mentoring students in their faith.
SPRING HILL, Kan. (March 3, 2025) – Spring Hill High School teacher and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) sponsor Gissel McDonald was recently honored with the prestigious Captain Award at the FCA Annual Breakfast Banquet in Independence, Missouri. The award, which recognizes the top FCA sponsor in the Kansas City metro area each year, celebrates McDonald’s dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to mentoring students in their faith.
McDonald, unaware of her nomination, was selected from more than 30 FCA sponsors across the region. A fellow educator nominated her for her outstanding service and devotion to the FCA mission. The Captain Award highlights individuals who lead with prayer, Gospel clarity, and a commitment to discipling others.
“She had no idea and was completely shocked when they asked her to come on stage and be recognized,” said her husband, Brian McDonald. “Gissel would never seek attention for herself, but given her dedication, hard work, and the countless unpaid hours she devotes to students at Spring Hill High School, I wanted to share this honor with our community. She proudly represents Spring Hill Schools in an amazing way.”
Spring Hill Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell praised McDonald’s achievement, calling it “awesome and worthy of celebrating.”
“She contributes above and beyond to the successes of USD 230,” Luttrell said. “She is amazing in all that she does, both personally and professionally.”
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes emphasized McDonald’s impact, stating that she “carries the light of Christ wherever she goes—into her school, community, and church—shining as a beacon of His love and truth for all to see.”
McDonald’s faithfulness and leadership have left a lasting impression on Spring Hill High School. Her recognition as the 2025 FCA Captain Award recipient reflects her dedication to positively influencing students academically and spiritually.
