Summary
The Spring Hill Board of Education met at Wolf Creek Elementary on February 24, 2025, to discuss key district matters, including Wolf Creek Elementary School’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) status and a funding request for Spring Hill High School’s Color Guard.

Wolf Creek Elementary PLC Presentation
Wolf Creek Elementary Principal Elizabeth Cooper presented on the school’s Professional Learning Community status. PLCs emphasize a commitment to student learning, collaboration among staff, and data-driven instruction. A faculty-led guidance coalition elaborated on learning targets and data analysis to support student success.
Recognitions and Announcements
The board recognized the Nutrition Services department for its partnership with local farmers to bring fresh, locally grown produce into schools, an initiative recognized by the Kansas State Department of Education.
Additionally, Spring Hill High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) sponsor, Gissel McDonald, received the Captain Award at FCA’s annual breakfast in Independence.
Superintendent Dr. Link Luttrell expressed appreciation for the district’s Facilities Department for their efforts during recent cold weather events.

Spring Hill High School Color Guard Equipment Request
Assistant Coach Keri Brotherton presented a request for the board to approve funding for the purchase of color guard rifles. The high school administration has endorsed the request, citing the need to enhance competitiveness and accommodate the program’s growth. The board will vote on the funding at a future meeting.
Summer Maintenance Projects
Facilities Director Kyley Delphia outlined proposed summer maintenance projects across the district. These include:

Delphia also noted that the department is considering replacing a 17-year-old John Deere mower. The board will receive updates on individual projects and approve funding on a per-project basis.
Region L Hazard Mitigation Plan
Tim Meek, Director of Construction and Safety, presented information on the Region L Hazard Mitigation Plan. Meek recommended that the district participate in the plan to ensure eligibility for FEMA disaster assistance. He also suggested the district consider adding storm shelters to long-term safety planning.
