Notes from the Superintendent, 2/21/2025

School Year
It's late February; hopefully, spring will soon be upon us. This will result in warm temperatures and no inclement weather that will impact our school days.

The first eight weeks of 2025 have definitely been winter at its finest. Of the scheduled 31 student attendance days between 1/6/25 and today, 2/21/25, there have been eight of those days where classes have been canceled, which equates to only a 74% rate of school being in session. After today, 57 student attendance days remain in our 2024-25 school year, and I’m hopeful Mother Nature will be KIND to us through the end of May.

School Bond Election to Manage Growth
As I referenced in my prior edition of “Link’d in”, our Board of Education, in response to a recommendation from the Community Engagement Group, will propose a $60 million school bond to voters at a special mail-in ballot election for May 13, 2025. If voters approve the bond, the tax rate/mill levy rate will NOT change.

The projects outlined for completion upon successful passage include:

  • An approximate 30,000 sq. ft. Career Tech Education (CTE) wing addition at Spring Hill High School
  • An approximate 5,000 sq. ft. expansion of the commons/cafeteria area at Spring Hill High School
  • Classroom Additions of approximately 5,500 sq. ft. each at Timber Sage, Prairie Creek, and Spring Hill Elementary
  • Roof Replacements at Spring Hill Elementary and Spring Hill Middle
  • HVAC Improvements at Spring Hill Elementary, Spring Hill Middle, and the Early Learning Academy

I’ll continue to share more information in the coming days, weeks, and months. Visit our webpage #BuildingOpportunity for the latest updates.

The District is projected to enroll an additional 1,000 students by 2031; by 2034, enrollment is expected to exceed 5,500 students. Most importantly, the successful passage of this measure will NOT increase the school tax/mill rate.

I will provide more detailed information and am available to speak to any group interested in learning more about the need for and scope of this bond election. Above all, patrons are strongly encouraged to stay informed and to vote.

I am READY and EAGER to share ANY and ALL information along with answering ANY and ALL questions related to the #BuildingOpportunity Bond Election. PLEASE reach out if you would like me to speak to you personally, or perhaps your friend or neighborhood group and/or any club or civic organization. Email me, luttrell@usd230.org, the possible dates, times, etc., and I will schedule it! I want everyone informed prior to voting!
