Let’s TACO ‘bout STEM! Sixth grade students spent the month of December designing their own food truck businesses. Spring Hill’s very own The Juan and Only taco truck made a visit to WSMS earlier in the month allowing students the opportunity to see the end goal of their projects.
Elements of the “Design a Food Truck” project gave students the opportunity to create business plans that included menus, pricing, equipment, advertising, and of course, a catchy name for the truck. They spent time researching how prices are calculated in order for the business to be profitable, and how branding is used in marketing to create recognition and loyalty. Learning how these trucks are engineered to handle unique working conditions, including storing all of the food and equipment needed, was essential to beginning their own designs. To conclude the project, students created scale models of their trucks.
