Science Olympiad Team Participates in First Ever Event, 11/10/2022
Academic extracurricular activities are a great way for students to get involved at their school and engage with content in a meaningful way. This year, Woodland Spring Middle School is competing in a nationwide program called Science Olympiad. Students compete in 23 different events and showcase their knowledge and talents in STEM fields. From testing events such as Anatomy and Physiology, Crime Busters (an event about Criminal Forensics), and Meteorology to engineering events like Bridge Building and Flight, students are able to compete in a variety of different disciplines underneath the STEM umbrella.
The WSMS team competed in their first invitational tournament at Pioneer Trail Middle School on November 5. They placed 8th overall. Our team sent participants to each of the 23 events, and brought back medals or ribbons in 7 different events. Medal and ribbon winners included 6th graders Morgan Hu and Aadith George; 7th graders Zofia Spiewacki, Olivia Ostermann, Brandon Huffmaster, and Audrey Ide; and 8th Graders Ryley Copeland, Katharine Lopez-Couto, Jordan Engle, as well as team captains Lily Falcetto and Hannah Mathy. The competition was fierce, with teams with more experience and more training, but our team fought hard and represented the Stallions well. Congratulations to all of our participants.
