Classroom Connect, 08/25/2023

Introductions have been completed, classroom expectations have been communicated, and lessons are well underway to begin this 2023-24 school year. Curious minds want to know what our Stallions are learning to start off the year, so we went to the teachers to get the scoop:

 

ELA (English/Language Arts) Classes

  • 6th Grade, Ms. Allison & Mrs. Vore: story elements and parts of a plot; identifying them in Pixar short films

  • 7th Grade, Mrs. Collins: settings and how they contribute to plot; students participated in a plot escape room this week.

  • 8th Grade, Mrs. Floyd: created vision boards and creative writing 

 

Math Classes

  • 6th Grade, Mr. Clark: greatest common factors and least common multiples

  • 7th Grade, Mrs. Sandberg: Math 7 students are working on scale drawings; calculating area of scale drawings and redrawing scale drawings with a new scale - Math 7+ students are working on area and surface of composite figures

  • 8th Grade, Ms. Volkman: identifying angle relationships and using those relationships to solve for unknown angles

 

Social Studies Classes

  • 6th Grade, Mrs. Vore: 

  • 7th Grade, Mrs. McBee: map skills with a focus on longitude and latitude

  • 7th Grade, Mr. Gehring: continents and oceans

  • 8th Grade, Mr. Gehring: European Colonists 

 

Science Classes

  • 6th Grade, Mrs. Weaver: parts of a microscope

  • 7th Grade, Mr. Hines: Stemscopes and animals competing for resources

  • 8th Grade, Mr. Schneider: periodic table, elements, and compounds

 

Healthy Living Classes

  • 6th Grade, Ms. Von Stein & Mr. Pipkin: students are learning four different warmups; change of pace, dots, speed ladder, and plyo 

  • 7th Grade, Ms. Von Stein & Mr. Pipkin: volleyball skills and weightlifting safety

  • 8th Grade, Ms. Von Stein & Mr. Pipkin: volleyball and weightlifting.

 

Choir Classes

  • 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade, Ms. Crochet: learning “America My Home” in preparation for Veteran’s Day

 

Band Classes

  • 6th Grade, Mr. Wooge: learning the basics

  • 7th & 8th Grade, Mr. Wooge: preparing for the SH Fall Festival Parade

 

Orchestra Classes

  • 6th, 7th, & 8th Grades, Mr. Wooge: learning the basics

 

Computer Science Classes

  • 6th Grade, Mr. Clary: how to navigate the internet and how it impacts day to day life

  • 7th & 8th Grade, Mr. Clary: computer and data security

 

Engineering Explorations Classes

  • Mrs. Snow: using Engineering Design process to design and create Lego sail cars; competing to see whose design goes the farthest 

 

World Languages Classes

  • Spanish 1, Mr. Roark: greetings, numbers, body parts, alphabet, and weather

  • 6th & 7th Grade, Mr. Roark: cognate words, numbers, ABCs, Latin American countries

 

Family and Consumer Science Classes

  • 6th Grade, Ms. Honnold: communication skills

  • 7th Grade, Ms. Honnold: sewing tools

  • 8th Grade, Ms. Honnold: food safety
