In two weeks, Mavericks will be sitting down with their teacher and a parent to discuss their academic growth, goals, and areas for improvement. Students will be in charge of the entire conference. Student-led conferences have become a staple at SHMS for the benefits they provide the students, including a growing self-awareness and advocacy for their own needs and interests.

Preparation begins after winter break, as students log-in to the Xello app to take interest inventories, explore potential careers, and complete lessons on topics such as learning styles and decision-making. Students create a presentation that helps them share this information, as well as their  grades, with their parents. Other things that are included are short and long-term goals and artifacts that show growth in an area of their choice.

Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, February 15th from 4-8 PM and Thursday, February 16th from 1-4 and 5-8 PM. Parents/guardians will receive an email on February 3rd from Spring Hill Middle School about how to schedule a 15 minute student-led conference time slot. Drop in times will also be available (see schedule below). Drop-in conferences will be limited to 5 minutes.
