Sixth Graders Bolster Sewing Skills with Pillow Project, 12/10/2022

     6th graders are boosting their sewing talents with a four-square pillow project. To accomplish the objective that they can demonstrate basic machine and hand sewing skills, students will complete a total of twenty-one steps to a finished pillow. These include:

  • threading both the machine and the bobbin;

  • selecting and pressing fabric;

  • tracing the template and cutting out squares from the fabric;

  • pinning and sewing pieces together;

  • pressing seams;

  • stuffing the pillow;

  • threading a hand needle;

  • slip stitching and tying knots.


     The project is estimated to take about a week and a half. At press time, students were just beginning to sew their pillows together.
