6th graders are boosting their sewing talents with a four-square pillow project. To accomplish the objective that they can demonstrate basic machine and hand sewing skills, students will complete a total of twenty-one steps to a finished pillow. These include:

threading both the machine and the bobbin;

selecting and pressing fabric;

tracing the template and cutting out squares from the fabric;

pinning and sewing pieces together;
-
pressing seams;
-
stuffing the pillow;
-
threading a hand needle;
-
slip stitching and tying knots.
The project is estimated to take about a week and a half. At press time, students were just beginning to sew their pillows together.
