Dodgeball Tournament Sees Mavericks into Spring Break 03/08/2024
This week saw teams competing in the SHMS annual dodgeball tournament! Participation is voluntary. Grade-level teams have ten players and each player pays $10 to participate.
The action began after school on Monday, March 4th with the 6th grade elimination tournament. Wednesday, March 6th had 7th graders competing after school and 8th graders wrapped up the preliminary rounds on Thursday the 7th. The winning team from each grade level earned the right to play in the championship bracket at the all-school assembly on Friday, March 8th. Those teams were: 8th grade - Spartans, 7th grade - Girly Pops, and 6th grade - The LA Dodgers. The staff put together two dodgeball teams - The DodgeFather (headed by Principal Meek) & The Underdodgers (headed by Assistant Principal Weber) - and these two battled for the right to enter the championship games. The winning staff team - The Underdodgers, then faced off in round one against the 6th grade team.
And this year’s winner? The Spartans! The 8th grade team defeated both the 7th grade Girly Pops and The Underdodgers teams to take home the title. The Underdodgers took 2nd place.
Monies raised in the tournament will be used to benefit SHMS students. Exactly what that will look like, as well as how much was raised, will be announced some time after Spring Break.
