SHMS Maverick cheerleaders competed in the Santa Showdown cheer showcase, hosted by Spring Hill High School on Saturday, December 9th. The last time the Maverick cheer squad competed was 16 years ago.

According to Maverick cheer coaches Micaela Edwards and Candace Schuler, “Over the last couple of years, our cheer program at SHMS has shown some great improvement. When we heard the high school was hosting their showcase, we believed this to be a great opportunity to take our girls to their first competition.”

At the showcase, each team could enter a team routine. This routine included a cheer, a chant, a dance, stunts, and a pyramid. Schuler and Edwards agree, “We are very proud of our cheerleaders for earning a 2 rating on their routine. Only two of our ten cheerleaders had ever competed in a cheer competition, so this was new territory for the majority of them. We are very impressed with all the hard work they put into learning this routine.”
