Holiday Season Brings Music to Our Ears, 12/04/2023

It’s beginning to look - and sound - a lot like Christmas! As the calendar flips to December, the tempo in the Maverick music department has switched from moderato to allegro as conferences and performances fill the last weeks of the semester.

On Saturday, December 2nd, the Spring Hill Instrumental Department participated in the East Central Kansas Music Educators Mini Convention. Ms. Pape (SHMS & FSMS orchestra) explained, "The mini-convention is an opportunity for our students to perform with students in surrounding districts (Olathe, Shawnee Mission, Blue Valley, DeSoto, Gardner-Edgerton, and Paola)." Students who participated at the Middle School level were nominated by their music teachers. Our district had 8 participants in the Middle Level Band and 17 participants in the Middle Level Orchestra. They did such a good job!

In addition, Mr. Brumley (SHMS & FSMS Band) was presented with his award for the ECKMEA Young Music Educator of the Year for middle school level band.

Get yourself into the holiday spirit over this next week with a performance or three from the SHMS music department! They’ve got a full calendar of events for the public to enjoy.
