Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Week; 09/27/2024
Suicide Prevention Week was all about raising awareness and starting important conversations about mental health. Middle school can be challenging, and our school staff wants every student to know they are not alone. It is always okay to ask for help.
Together, students and staff build a school community so no one feels alone. Students took part in a spirit week this month where every day they dressed up to help raise awareness of suicide prevention. Each of the themes had a positive message inspiring them. Students wore hats to show hats off to those who care, and neon to inspire brighter days. One of the days that teachers loved just as much as students, was PJ day. We ended our week connecting with our classmates by wearing school colors.
Eighth grade also participated in a heartfelt and impactful program called Give Me 20. This program was started by two courageous mothers who share their personal stories of loss after their children passed away due to suicide. Their message showed students the value of life and the importance of reaching out for help. Teachers and counselors supported students as they worked together to create small boxes, filled with items to lift their spirits when times get tough. Each box contained personal surprises, including letters from family members and important people in their lives.
More than ever today, students are faced with challenges and overwhelming emotions, but together we can make a difference. Remember, your voice matters.
