What Veterans Day Means to Us, 11/15/2024
By Izzy Hines and Keira Secor, SHMS Publications Class
Veterans Day With 6th grade History Teacher Mr. Dillow
Mr. Dillow said Veterans Day to him is to recognize all of the Army and the freedom we get from our rights and veterans. He talked about how celebrating Veterans Day for all the people that serve is the respect we should give to them. He likes to hang out with the people he served with. He also likes to just think about the people he served with and stay in touch with them. Mr. Dillow is a veteran, and he flew in the Army for ten years. He also has multiple aunts, uncles, and lots of other family members that were in World War 2.
Veterans Day With 8th grade History Teacher Ms. Cole
Our Teacher Ms. Cole has a grandfather who was a Veteran who fought in World War 2. Ms. Cole celebrates Veterans Day with her family by putting flowers on her grandfather’s and other relatives' graves. This year our 8th grade teacher, Ms. Cole, helped make our assembly memorable by explaining the importance of what Veterans Day means with the different symbols and how they show what Veterans Day is. Ms. Cole states “Veterans Day gives us the right to be free for the people who fought and gave up their lives”. This explains that we are free because of the people who gave their lives for us. Ms. Cole states that Veterans Day is about “Honoring those who serve to protect us”. This explains what Veterans Day is about to our teachers and students at Spring Hill Middle School.
