Debate Team Competes at State 1/19/2023

The Spring Hill High School Debate team competed in the KSHSAA 5A State Debate Championship January 12-13 at Washburn Rural High School. Spring Hill had four teams compete at State this year — sophomores Zack Vasser and Anthony Moley, and juniors Benjamin Beckwith and Quinten Vasser, Taylor Neeck and Max Pacheco, and Luke Torrez and Adiel Garcia. For the juniors, this was their second straight appearance at the State Debate Tournament.

Ben and Quinten, and Luke and Adiel, each finished with 3-3 records. Luke and Adiel finished the first day 3-1 and were in the running to advance to octofinal rounds until the last preliminary round. Meanwhile, the other two teams each finished 2-4. While no teams advanced to the elimination rounds, all four teams showed significant improvement from last year's State competition, setting them up for hopeful success next year at State!
