Students Celebrate Academic Successes

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, three seniors were recognized at the State of the District breakfast for outstanding academic achievements: Henry Seitz, National Merit Semifinalist, and Adelyn O"Hanlon and Maya Lozano, College Board Recognition Program.

Approximately 1.5 million high school junior students take the PSAT/NMSQT every fall. To be declared a National Merit Semifinalist, students must score in the top 1% of their state. 16,000 students yearly are recognized as semifinalists. Seitz will now submit an essay, transcript, and recommendation letters in an attempt to become a finalist. Only 8,500 students are awarded National Merit Scholarships annually.

The College Board National Recognition Program recognizes the top 10% of students who meet PSAT and GPA requirements and who also fit an underrepresented category of students.
