Let's get moving!

Our Virtual "Get up and Move" Activity

The following are a list of screen and no screen activities that emphasize gross motor skills while reinforcing our social emotional learning curriculum from first semester. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at anytime (Lisa Dooley, MSPT at dooleyl@usd230.org). Have fun and get moving!

Skill: body awareness (start and stop body movements)

The object of the first activity is for the students to practice “freezing” on command. Call out a gross motor skill

such as walking, jumping, hopping, skipping, crawling, etc. Have them perform the skill for 5-10 seconds. The

students perform the motion around the room. When the adult yells “Stop” students must freeze their body for a

count of 5 seconds. Remind the students not to touch any other students while performing the skills. Call out the

next skill and practice starting/stopping again.

Skill ideas: running, jumping, catching/throwing imaginary ball, blinking, squatting, reach up high, touch your toes,

arm circles, go up on toes, up on heels, lunging, clapping, wave goodbye, palms up/palms down, air high fives, etc.
