Director of Construction & Safety Tim Meek shared some construction updates to the Board. Steel framing has begun on Middle School #3, and public improvements will continue at 191st Street, 192nd Street and 193rd Street. Installation of perimeter fencing and panel mounting hardware began on October 4, 2021 on the Solar Panel Project, which should be finished by the end of the year.
Meek also presented an updated Safety Guidelines and Procedures Manual for the district to the Board.
The Board recognized Spring Hill’s 2022 Horizon Award winners. This recognition is given to teachers for exemplary performance during their first year in the classroom. The elementary school honoree is Alyson Daniels, teacher at Spring Hill Early Learning Academy. The secondary honoree is Meredith Helus, Social Studies teacher at Spring Hill Middle School. Both educators joined the district for the 2020-21 school year, and are now in their second year of teaching.
Director of Construction & Safety Tim Meek presented a request relating to the electrical supply for Middle School #3 to the Board. The Board approved the action item for the easement for Evergy Metro, Inc., a Missouri corporation for electrical service to Middle School #3, with a 7-0 vote.
The Board discussed specifications for future offsite Board meetings. The topics discussed covered the pros and cons of streaming Board meetings away from the District Administrative Center on YouTube and what items, including public participation, to put on these meeting agendas.
It was decided to keep the focus of the Board meetings in the schools on the hosting school and its students. USD 230 will continue to not stream these specific Board meetings on YouTube, attempt to keep discussion and action items on these agenda limited, and will not have public participation during these offsite meetings.
