USD 230 BOE Meeting Recap

The Spring Hill School Board of Education met September 27, 2021 at Dayton Creek Elementary School for the school's morning meeting and to discuss several items. The following are some important highlights from the meeting:

Vacant Board Position

COVID-19 Dashboard:

Superintendent Dr. Wayne Burke brought back to the Board the request from several individuals for mask exemption counts to be added to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard. The Board approved the addition of face mask exemption forms with a 7 - 0 vote. The exemptions will be added to the dashboard by Friday, October 1 and will be updated on Tuesdays and Fridays with the rest of the dashboard data.

Public Participation:

2 individuals spoke during the public participation of the 9/27 meeting. The topics covered included COVID-19 and the district's mitigation practices.

SHHS Activities Request:

Two different activities from Spring Hill High School presented to the Board about upcoming opportunities at the 9/13 meeting. The SHHS Dazzler Dance Team previously discussed attending the ADTS National Dance Championship at the University of North Texas. The Board approved the funding request of two district vehicles and gas for the trip with a 6 - 0 vote.

The Spring Hill FFA chapter previously discussed attending the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Board approved the funding request of three district vehicles and gas for the trip with a 6 - 0 vote.

Vacant Board Position:

The Board reviewed the one resume submission for the currently vacant Board position. Keith Ewing answered questions from each Board member relating to his qualifications for the position. 

The Board approved the application of the vacant Board position with Keith Ewing with a  6 - 0 vote. Ewing was sworn in immediately following the approval and is the Board member for Position 6 - Area 3 through the end of the year. He is running for this position unopposed in the upcoming November election.
