SHHS Graduation Update 6/30

SHHS Graduation Update 6/30
Posted on 07/01/2020

At this point, we are still planning an in-person graduation ceremony. We will continue to follow guidance for large public gatherings from the State of Kansas and the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment. While we would love to have graduation indoors, due to the Governor’s recent announcement and increased COVID-19 cases in Johnson County, we feel it is safest for our community to have an outdoor graduation.

While we understand the requirements for any gathering may change, we want to provide some information for planning purposes. As of today, the schedule for graduation and practice is as follows:

Friday, July 24th @ 9:00 am – Graduation practice for all graduates @ Spring Hill Activity Center (SHHS stadium). The senior breakfast will begin at 8:00 a.m. Currently, our plan is to have breakfast under the stadium bleachers. More details will be sent out regarding practice and breakfast. Parents will not be responsible for providing a buffet breakfast. We will contact parents to help us coordinate a boxed breakfast. Donations will be appreciated.

Saturday, July 25th @ 10:00 am – Graduation Ceremony @ Spring Hill Activity Center (SHHS

Given the current health guidelines, we will make graduation a ticketed event. Each graduate will be allowed up to 8 tickets. In an effort to reduce the number of people at any gathering, we are asking you to only take the number of tickets needed. Seniors may pick up their tickets in the high school office beginning Monday, July 6, through Thursday, July 16. Currently, the high school office is open Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

We are still finalizing specific plans, but given the current guidelines, here is what we know:

  • At this time, masks are required for entrance.

  • Graduates will be socially distanced on the football field.

  • The ceremony itself could be adjusted, in order to allow social distancing and to minimize physical contact.

  • The graduation ceremony will be live-streamed by Spring Hill Sports Live. You can find the link to the ceremony on their YouTube channel. (

  • We realize that weather may be a factor in your attendance so please plan accordingly. If rain prevents us from holding the ceremony outdoors, we will provide a contingency plan.

  • If we continue to be limited in the number of people allowed in mass gatherings, we are planning for a drive-through or virtual ceremony.

As we finalize plans, we will continue to communicate with you. We know this is an important milestone for our seniors and Spring Hill High School intends to provide a ceremony worthy of this class’s efforts. If you have questions, please feel free to contact SHHS at
