The Spring Hill School Board of Education met July 12, 2021 at the District Administrative Center to discuss several items. The following are some important highlights from the meeting:

The Board approved a revised academic calendar for the 2021-22 school year. The changes include:

August 12, 2021 - Added teacher professional development date.

May 25, 2022 - New date for last day for students (originally 5/26/22).

May 26, 2022 - New date for teachers professional development (originally 5/27/22).

May 27, 2022 - New date for flex day for teachers (originally 5/31/22).

The Board approved adjustments to the Board of Education meetings schedule which included the Budget Workshop moving back to July 23 at 6:30 pm and the Budget Hearing moving back to September 13 at 6:30 pm. Click here for the updated BOE Meeting Schedule.
Tim Meek, director of safety and construction, shared construction updates, which included 2018 Bond projects. DCES is on schedule for the Fall 2021 opening. The construction of the third Spring Hill middle school is continuing as planned for the Fall 2023 opening. The pavement rehab at SHES is almost complete. The rehab at the SHHS tennis courts is currently in progress and should be completed before the start of school. The solar panel project at SHHS is slightly behind schedule due to delays in receiving equipment, but there is no anticipated disruption to any school this fall. Dr. Burke, superintendent, made a proposal to the Board for December 26 and December 31 to become paid holidays for classified staff. The Board discussed how this may positively impact the recruitment and retention of staff. This will come back as an action item at the July 26 meeting.

A number of exciting USD 230 events are approaching. The President of Johnson County Community College will be speaking at the July 26 meeting about updates from JCCC. DCES will host its dedication and open house on July 28 at 6:00 pm. The Spring Hill School District will host Dr. Watson and the State Board of Education’s Listening Tour that centers around education in Kansas. This event will be held at WSMS on September 2 at 11:30 am.
