WCES First Annual Turkey Trot Nets $426 for Local Food Pantry and Clothes Closet

December 07, 2016

On November 18, the halls were glowing when over 60 Wolf Creek “turkeys” ran in the first annual Turkey Trot to raise money for the Spring Hill Clothes Closet and Spring Hill Food Pantry.  Students were able to participate in a 1-mile or 2-mile run, while earning glow sticks along the way.  “The reactions of the students were priceless when they found out that they not only got to run in the hallways, but the hallways were also darkened. “ Mrs. Wittman commented.

With the help of volunteers and donors, the evening also allowed for families and friends to create special memories together.   From drinking warm cider on a chilly night, participating in a raffle with donations from Chipotle, WCES PTO, SHMS and SHHS, to being silly in a photo booth, WCES was full of smiles!

Because of  the generosity of those who participated, checks for $213 dollars each were presented to the two designated community organizations.  According to Tim Meek representing the Spring Hill  Food Pantry, close to 2,000 pounds of food can be purchased with the donation. Mrs. Marcum, WCES Counselor and co-organizer of the event shared,  “Knowing that our families give their time and donations to help our community truly warms our hearts.  Not only did we raise over $400 for the two local organizations, but 110 canned goods were also donated to the Multi-Service Center in Spring Hill, “

Mrs. Wittman, Mrs. Marcum and the staff of WCES hope to make this a yearly event and are excited to watch it grow and provide even more funds to support community organizations.
