Where am I?

Frontier League Festival

On October 10 2011, the Spring Hill Middle School traveled to Louisburg for the Frontier League Vocal Festival.

The Festival is a unique event for the fine arts.  Not many sports teams would invite a guest coach to come work with their team and coach them in a different way.  The fine art recognizes that there is more than one way to perform a phrase or visualize a sound.  Therefore, if we hear the same thing from different directors and clinicians, then we understand the concept better and can apply it in our performance.  The students learned that if you don't try something then you won't know if it will work or not.

Our clinician was Elise Peterson from Pioneer Trail Middle School in Olathe, KS.  Elise has worked in our league before and has been a guest clinician at our league festival before.  The students tried everything that they were asked to do, and they improved greatly because of it.  They were very receptive to her style of teaching.

The festival began with each choir singing their individual pieces for the clinician and then receiving a 30 minute clinic on those pieces.  This was followed by a mass choir rehearsal on two pieces titled Ma Navu and Sanctus.  These two pieces were performed by the mass choir consisting of choirs from Louisburg, Paola, and Spring Hill.  The evening was concluded with a performance by the mass choir and each school choir performing by themselves.

Now it is time to prepare for the Winter Vocal Concert.  Check the Concerts page for more information.
