Horatio Alger Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Enrolled full time as a high school senior.
  • Intend to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution.
  • Critical financial need, preferably $50,000 or lower.
  • Involvement in co-curricular and community  service activities.
  • Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.
  • US citizenship.

Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Scholarship

Criteria:

  • High school senior
  • Good character with no criminal background
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation by at least two faculty members.
  • Essay on the topic , "How can "social media" such as Twitter, Utube, and Facebook assist law enforcement  in their duties and promote increased participation by young adults in the criminal justice process?"

Belles of the American Royal Presidential Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Are entering their senior year of high school in 2011 or are currently pursuing an undergraduate or associates degree in any field of study,
  • Have completed and documented at least 15 volunteer hours at American Royal events (see application for more information of qualifying events and verification form)
  • Have maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

 Kansas City K-State Alumni Club Scholarship


Criteria:

  • Several $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen from the KC Metro area.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Application includes three letters of recommendation, essay, and academic information and verification
  •  Application is available through the counseling office or at http://www.k-state.com/Clubs/KansasCityAreaAlumniClub click on the link for "K-State Wabash Cannon Ball Scholarships."
  • This application does not replace the general K-State scholarship application, but is an excellent opportunity for students to earn a $2,500 scholarship.

Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Scholarship, Leadership and Financial Need.

Kelly Lynn Lutz Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Lost the life of at least one parent (biological or non) to cancer before the age of 22.
  • Attend a 2- or 4-year (minimum) higher education establishment.
  • Have an interest in education, arts, environment, math, or science.
  • Show service involvement in the community, church, school, or other non-curricular activity.
  • Indicate financial need.

Johnson County STOP underage drinking scholarship

 Criteria:

  • Must be an active, positive drug-free role model for others.  
  • Must demonstrate involvement in underage drinking/substance abuse prevention 
  • Must enroll in 12 or more college credit hours at an accredited junior college or 4 year university

Penwell-Gabel Tradition of Caring Nursing Scholarship 
Criteria:

  • Seniors and current college students who are planning on pursuing a degree in nursing.
  • The Scholarship is open to any nursing student who is a resident of a community served by Penwell-Gabel funeral home.

The Hixson Opportunity Awards

Criteria:

  • The Hixson Opportunity Award was established to provide the opportunity for students to attend KU  who would otherwise not be able to because of personal challenges and/or financial hardship. 

Amount: Each recipient will have the opportunity to receive up to $20,000 for their educational expenses ($5,000 per year for up to four years).

 Kansas City Legal Secretaries Association(KCLSA 2011 Scholarship)

Criteria:

  • Must carry the equivalent of a "B" grade average or higher and be in the top 25% of their class.

Criteria:

  • High School Senior
  • Have participated in an American Legion Shooting Sports Program on the State and Regional Levels
  • Must have a C average or better

Hobble (LPN) Nursing Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must demonstrate financial need 
  • Must have attained the age of 18 prior to taking the Kansas State Board examination.
  • Attend an accredited Kansas School which awards a diploma for Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN).
  • Pursue this profession in a health related institution such as a nursing home or hospital located in Kansas.

Criteria:

  • Attending a Kansas College or University
  • Must be the son, daughter, or grandchild of a member of the Kansas Sons of the American Legion for the past 3 consecutive years.

Criteria:

  • At least a 3.0 grade point
  • Consideration should be given to those applicants desiring to engage in the fields of Science, Engineering, or Business Administration.

 Olathe Medical Center***
Criteria:

  • Spring Hill student planning to pursue a career in health care.
  • Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and provide an official transcript with the application.
  • The applicant must have taken either the ACT or SAT and provide proof of the test scores.
  • The applicant must pursue a major in the medical field or in health care administration.

Johnson County League of Women Voters Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a Johnson County High School
  • Be 19 years or younger and a graduating senior
  • Submit an essay of not more than 500 words

Amount:  $1,000

Deadline:  Must be submitted by midnight of February 17, 2012

Application:  Essays can be submitted in Word or PDF document format as an attachment to an email addressed to Paula.Schwach@dot.gov. Please do not include your name on any part of the essay other than the email transmittal sheet and the attached cover sheet/entry form.

The essay must address the following questionIf redistricting is the art of selecting voters for candidates, why is it still vital to vote?

The winner will be  honored at our annual Making Democracy Work Awards Program on Saturday, May 5, 2012, and must be available then to read the winning essay.

 

Spring Hill Education Foundation***

Criteria:

  • If entering the workforce, must have a documented career plan.
  • If entering college or technical school, must have been accepted to post-secondary education.
  • Awarded on basis of experiences/achievements, attendance, community and school involvement, and career goals.

Amount of Award: Ten $1500 awards

Deadline: Scholarship application due date is February 22, 2012; Interview date will be March 7, 2012.

Criteria:

  • Currently living in Johnson County.
  • Pursuing a post secondary degree.
  • An essay and two letters of recommendation are required in addition to the application.

Criteria:

  • Must have a 3.5 GPA or higher
  • Plan to attend JCCC in the fall

Sunflower Ruritan Club - Ramona McVey Memorial Scholarship***

Criteria:

  • Brief statement addressing questions on scholarship indicating GPA, interests, subjects taken, etc.
  • Typically given to a student planning to attend a community college or a technical college.

Amount of Award: $600 scholarships awarded; number of scholarships given varies by year

Criteria:

  • Parent or Guardian must be a paid member of Miami County Farm Bureau Association for at least one full year
  • Student be approved for financial aid
  • Be involved in extra-curricular activities

  Glenn Lygrisse/KACRAO Scholarship Application

 Criteria:

  • Senior at a Kansas High School
  • Have a cumulative seventh semester GPA of at least a 3.25
  • Have a minimum ACT score of 22 or SAT score of 1020
  • Provide evidence of leadership experience

Criteria:

Trails West Barbershop Harmony Chorus 

Criteria:

  • Be a graduating high school senior
  • Must have had involvement in some form of high school music
  • Priority given to students pursuing music in college
  • Must have recommendation of high school music teacher
  • If selected, must provide documentation of college enrollment
  • Scholarship is paid out 2nd semester of their freshman year

Criteria:

  • Scholarships will be awarded to young men and women who have attended the area high school a minimum of two years, will graduate from one of the area schools, and shall be used for obtaining a college education.
  • Selection will be based on a good all-around student who has demonstrated a caring attitude toward fellow students and teachers.
  • Business/finance majors
