Children's Book Week
Since 1919, Children's Book Week has been celebrated countrywide with author & illustrator appearances, parties, storytelling, and other book-related events in schools, libraries, bookstores, clubs -- anywhere where kids and books connect.
To celebrate at Spring Hill Elementary there will be some fun activities going on throughout the week.
1. Second grade Battle of the Books contest - with final battle on Friday at 1:15
2. NO TV night - Wednesday, May 9th
3. The best excuse for an overdue library book – students use your imaginations, come up with a GREAT excuse, submit to the library and the winning excuse will be announced Friday.
4. Favorite book character posters– each class will illustrate a poster with characters from their favorite books. These will be hung around the library.
5. Favorite book character contest - students will vote on their favorite book character between these well known book characters: Clifford, Flat Stanley, Berenstain Bears, Froggy, Junie B. Jones and Franklin
6. Name that book! Each morning at morning opening Miss Little will give a synopsis from a book and the students can guess the title of the book. Students that know the title will be awarded a prize!
Guess that book clue for Monday, May 7th: A penguin reads a book to learn how to make a jetpack so that he can fly.
Clue for Tuesday, May 8th: A big bad wolf tells his side of the story.
Clue for Wednesday, May 9th: A little girl gets tricked by a wolf on the way to her grandmother's house.
Clue for Thursday, May 10th: Three billy goats try to cross a bridge but a troll tries to stop them.
Clue for Friday, May 11th: In what story did a girl spin straw into gold?
