Teachers Honored for Exemplary First-Year Performance

The Spring Hill School District recently honored its 2018 Horizon Award winners. This recognition is given to teachers for exemplary performance during their first year in the classroom. The elementary school honoree is Kathleen Hail, sixth grade math teacher at Spring Hill Middle School North. The secondary-level honoree is Chris Hagedorn who teaches history at Spring Hill High School. They both joined the district for the 2016-17 school year, and are now in their second year of teaching. As district-level winners, they now have the opportunity to compete in the Kansas State Department of Education’s 2018 Kansas Horizon Award Program.

In Ms. Hail’s classroom, she focuses on differentiation.  She says “With teaching, it is something that is constantly changing each and every day, whether it is what you are to teach, the students you encounter, or even the people you work with.”

Hagedorn’s favorite thing about teaching is the challenge of inspiring students to develop a passion and love of learning that will carry on throughout their entire lives.  Additionally, he says “I really enjoy getting to know each student and interacting with them on a daily basis.  There is nothing more rewarding than being there to support students as they face and overcome the challenges that come with academic and personal growth.”
