Prairie Creek Elementary Expansion

With a student population currently over its total capacity, the expansion of Prairie Creek Elementary School is well timed and already underway. The 19,000-square foot PCES expansion adds 12 new classrooms in three learning pods, which doubles the number of classrooms for each grade level from two to four rooms. According to J.E. Dunn representatives, bids for the $5.25 million addition came in 15 percent less than estimated, due to favorable construction rates during the winter and spring months. Part of the school’s original master plan, the building expansion will be completed this summer and ready for the 2012-13 school year.

Update -- January 2012

With the help of Mother Nature and also plenty of hard work, the expansion of Prairie Creek Elementary School is moving forward smoothly and successfully according to construction manager J.E. Dunn. The expansion, which was part of the district’s 2011 bond issue, will more than double the capacity of the school.

Currently, the concrete foundation and slab-on-grade is 100% complete.  In addition, masonry walls are in progress, approximately 75% complete, and anticipated to be done by end of January.  Structural steel and metal decking is scheduled for the beginning of February with brick veneer following closely behind. The building is scheduled to be enclosed, which means the roof is on, brick installed and windows are in, by early spring.  Finally, the interior finishes will progress throughout the beginning of summer as originally planned.
