Maintenance
The bond issue includes funds to address more than $8 million in deferred maintenanceprojects as well as ensure that anticipated needs are accounted for until 2014.Major parking lot and sidewalk repairs are planned for the summer months when usageis at its lowest. In addition, minor roof repairs, painting and other updates are being planned and scheduled.
Topping the district’s maintenance list, new heating, ventilation and cooling systems for Spring Hill Elementary and Middle Schools were given priority status. The existing units, which are nearly 20 years old, do not provide consistent temperatures, are costly to maintain and also are not energy efficient. While a geothermal system was originally considered, board members voted to move forward with a Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) system, which offers similar reductions in operating costs but at a lower installed cost than the geothermal system. The new VRV systems will be installed this summer to avoid disruption of school. The new systemswill ensure classrooms are kept at properly maintained temperatures so the environment is more conducive to learning.
