October
We are currently undergoing our fitness testing with the 3rd and 5th graders using the Fitnessgram Fitness test. Students are tested in 4 areas: Upper body strength (push ups), flexibility (sit and reach), abdominal strength and endurance (curl-ups) cardiovascular endurance (pacer test). We also had a visit on October 4th from the fire department. They helped us learn about fire safety and prevention. All classes got to tour the fire trucks and learn how to prevent fires and what to do if they are ever in a fire. Please help your child to be successful in PE and safe by helping them to remember their sneakers on gym days.

We have been learning a lot and having fun in PE. Tag and other recess games have been our focus these first few weeks. We have been learning how to play all of the activities that are offered at recess. Sharks and minnows, car lot, capture the flag and kickball are a few of the activities that we have gone over that kids also play during outdoor recess. We are also learning how to punt, pass and kick a football. Many of our students signed up to do Spring Hill’s Punt, Pass and Kick competition held at the middle school each year before the homecoming football game. In the upcoming weeks we will begin Fitness testing using the Fitnessgram tests: sit and reach, push ups, sit-ups and the pacer test. Remember to wear your tennis shoes on PE days to help you do your best.

Hello, for those of you new to the Intermediate School I am Miss Von Stein and I teach physical education and health to all grades here at SHIS. This is my 11th year teaching in the Spring Hill district. I work with the students three times a week. We do a lot of fun activities and it is important that the kids remember their tennis shoes on their P.E. days.
I believe that knowledge about health and fitness are crucial. Without it, other life goals are difficult to achieve. Students who have health knowledge and skills have better health status and as adults will be better prepared to contribute to society’s competitiveness. Within our PE program it is my goal to help each child be more prepared for life’s challenges. We learn everyday as we play.
