Mr. Aaron Todd
6-8th Boys’ Physical Education Instructor
7th Grade Pre-Algebra Instructor

Physical Education

Welcome to a class that will get students up and moving! The objective of class is to provide students with a safe/positive environment to explore both individual and team activities. Students will be given instructional feedback regarding the skills and strategies required to successfully participate in both recreational and competitive activities. An emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship and methods to achieve lifelong fitness.

The daily routine is important since our class period is limited to approximately forty-minutes. Prior to class all students must change into athletic dress (shorts, t-shirt, tennis shoes) and secure items in their lockers. Class time will be spent on appropriate stretching, agility exercises, pre-activity instruction, and participation. Students are encouraged to use proper hygiene after class to maintain quality health and wellbeing.

*Students will be involved in setting daily acitivity goals with a focus on improving strength and fitness scores on the fitnessgram.  Students will participate in the fitnessgram two times during the year (September & April).  An emphasis is being placed on individual improvement comparing the fall scores to the spring scores.

Quarter activities: Spring Fitnessgram, Hoops for Heart, track & field events, slow pitch softball, table tennis, and additional recreational activities

Welcome to Pre-Algebra!! Placement in this accelerated 7th grade math class will be a building-based decision using previous Kansas Math Assessment scores, previous Math MAP scores and a spring math readiness test. When all data has been analyzed and decisions have been made, a letter to parents of students who qualify will be mailed before the start of our fall semester.

Students will have the opportunity to learn concepts that will prepare them for the standards tested on the Kansas Math Assessment, as well as provide them with the knowledge necessary to enter Algebra in the 8th grade. This class will challenge students to apply various problem-solving strategies to solve problems they may encounter in the real world. Classroom instruction will incorporate both textbook materials and online websites to enrich/enhance student understanding. Outside of the classroom many Pre-Algebra students can participate in the Frontier League Math Competition, which takes place in April.

*Students will be focusing on the following concepts this quarter: BAIP (Blended Assessment with Instructional Program) in preparation for the Kansas Assessment which is scheduled for April 5th,6th,9th.  Coordinate plane, linear equations, slope, surface area, volume, number patterns, equations with two variables, Pythagorean theorem, various methods to display numerical data, polynomials, monomials, and continuing discussion on real world applications of mathematics.

*Please access SKYWARD Message Center to view weekly assignments and student grades. You may also access assignments via Google Calendar

*Online Textbook: www.classzone.com

**DON'T FORGET** Selected students will have an opportunity to participate in the Frontier League Math Contest taking place on April, 17th.

***To provide your student with the best education we must work as a team.  I believe it is vitally important that the student, teacher, and parent/guardian work towards a common goal of student success within the classroom.  I appreciate any support you can provide.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.
