Composition I & II, and English III Instructor
Welcome to Mr. Sherron’s Composition and English III classes. Throughout the school year, the juniors are exposed to a variety of language arts material. The English III, junior English class focuses on American Literature. The students are exposed to early a variety of genres including, Puritan literature, drama, works from the Roaring Twenties, the Depression era, and an extensive decade research paper. During the student's junior year in English, and through their senior year, it is important that the students grow in an academic matter that prepares them for the challenges of the next school year, and for success at the collegiate level. As we analyze a variety of literary avenues, it is important that the developing student is able to take the experiences from the literature and apply the messages from the works to his/her life.
The seniors, who are taking college credit composition through Johnson County Community College are exposed to a variety of elements regarding the mechanics of composition. To further add, these skills are applied to a variety of composition genres including essays that focus on a memoir, a profile, a problem/solution essay, an evaluation, a report, and a literary anaylsis. In addition, the students improve their analytical skills as they evaluate, summarize and synthesize current issues involving social psychology, enviromentalism, and the modern day career field.
As the school year is coming to a close, the juniors will finish with American Literature including Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Steinbeck and Lorraine Hansberry. The composition students will write a argumentative synthesis, and finish the year reading and analyzing the novel The Alchemist.
Have a great finish. This has been a fantastic 2011 and 2012 school year.
