2nd Grade Teacher

Welcome, we are marching through second grade as we learn about many different things.

In my classroom, we:
-are like a family and take care of each other
-always keep a healthy environment
-use cooperative learning techniques

-have lots of fun

-strive to use the 7 character keys; courage, responsiblity, perserverance, compassion, respect, honesty, and self discipline

This year we will:

Reading:

-Treasures Macmillan/McGraw-Hill

Second grade will focus on advancing children's phonemic awareness, phonics, and high-frequency word-recognition skills, extending their understanding of narrative and informational text, and increasing their efficiency in written communication.

Math:

-Everyday Mathematics

The Everyday Mathematics instructional design was carefully crafted to increase student interest and maximize student learning.  Those included are: high expectations for all students, concepts and skills developed over time and in a wide variety of contexts, balance among mathematics strands, dynamic applications, multiple methods and strategies for problem solving, concrete modeling as a pathway to abstract understanding, collaborative learning in partner and small-group activities, cross-curricular applications and connections, and built in professional development for teachers.

Science and Social Studies:

-Science: Scott Foresman Science

This series is built on three levels of inquiry.  All three engage students in activities that build a strong science foundation and help them develop a full understanding of the inquiry process.

-Social Studies: District Created

The social studies curriculum has been mapped out and designed according to the state standards.  Educators use a wide variety of instructional tools to teach the students.
