Mrs. Kerri Rodden
English I and II Teacher
Volunteer Teacher and Sponsor
I can't believe it is already 2012! I am excited about the upcoming semester and I look forward to it! Below is some background information about me and my teaching career, and this will also give you a preview of what to expect this semester!
Background of Mrs. Rodden and my English Classes:
Welcome to my classroom! I have been teaching at the high school since 2001. I currently teach English I and II. With both levels, I try to get students to make a connection with the literature and activities done in class. The material challenges students, and they are assessed in a variety of styles to keep them engaged and interested. The assessment varies from projects, tests, presentations, and they also write a formal paper once a quarter. Some of the major units covered in English I are Romeo and Juliet, Animal Farm, and The Odyssey. Some major units covered in English II are To Kill a Mockingbird, Twelve Angry Men, the novel Night, a research paper, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Students in English II will take the Kansas Reading Assessment during the fourth quarter of their sophomore year.
I am also a co-teacher of the Volunteer Class. This program originated in 1997 as a means to reach out to the community and for its student members to become more aware of the needs of others. Every week, the students in the class go out into the community to help make a difference. The students make weekly visits to several elderly residents in the community called their “adopted grandparents” and visit the residents of Assisted Lifestyles at Blawkhawk. We also have students that peer model and tutor at Spring Hill Intermediate School.
