Mr. Brad Reinking
Art Instructor
Teaching art requires a lot of balance. It requires a unique combination of directing, watching, listening, coaching, guiding, and waiting. Finding the balance among these modes can be very challenging. In my classroom, I work to help steer my students toward an understanding of what great art is and what it takes to make good art. My students are expected to keep busy; the best way to grow in art is to keep your hands and mind concentrated on the task that is assigned.
Perhaps the most powerful way that I have struck a balance in my teaching is through the use of computer technologies in my art classes. I use Microsoft Office PowerPoint for presentations, the web for gallery visits, and share my desktop on the overhead screens almost daily for my Computer Graphics class.
My goal for each student is to have them develop an appreciation and understanding of art. Not every student is going to be a great artist, but those who have an understanding and appreciation have a well-rounded mind.
